What are the long-term characteristics of politics, government, and institutions in Tunisia, Egypt, and Syria that led to liberal democracy in Tunisia, a reversion to authoritarianism in Egypt, and a horrific civil war in Syria. Regime characteristics you should think about include the political polarization of ethnic/ religious sects, the role of the military, the support of regional and world powers, and the institutions that enable political leaders to take responsibility (use author Feldman’s definition). One third of your paper should be on Tunisia, one third on Egypt, and one-third on Syria. Use and cite the three chapters of Arab Winter and include page numbers (Feldman, 55)
