The Sociology of Death and Dying final exam is a paper which includes two components. It is worth 25% of your grade.
Part A consists of reporting 2 important statistical or objective findings from EACH of the topics listed below. Briefly explain why it is important and make sure you include your source. You may use our textbook, the library and/or internet sources related to the following areas:

Legal Death
Part B will consist of choosing a religious belief system – it may be your own or one that interests you on an academic level. By reading printed material or speaking with a religious leader answer the following questions:
a. How does the belief system define the concepts of life and death? How are these two definitions related?
b. What are the beliefs surrounding the destination of the body and/or soul (spirit) after the person has died?
c. How is the belief system reflected in the death rituals performed for the dead body? Describe them.
d. What consolation and support is given to the survivors of the deceased? What mourning rituals are prescribed for those who want to honor the dead?
