In a recent book by Google executive Eric Schmidt and Jared Cohoe, titled “The New Digital Age: Reshaping the Future of People, Nations and Business”, Schmidt states that “the internet is among the few things that humans have built that they don’t understand.” Explain the Internet or at least discuss how it- and 24 hour news channels, cell phone cameras, social media, surveillance videos, etc.- have raised new legal and ethical media issues, especially in the aftermath of the numerous smart phone videos of police and civil unrest, WikiLeaks, fake-news websites, “bots” influencing the 2016 and 2020 elections, the ongoing Facebook controversy and the recent mass murder in New Zealand that was live-streamed on social media.
