Complete a review of a research article that focuses on individuals with exceptionalities. Summarizing and analyzing research is an essential skill within the field of education or associated disciplines that will help you gain a deeper understanding of individuals with exceptionalities. 50 Points
Step 1 Identifying an article for review
Identify a research article from a peer-reviewed journal with a publication date no older than 2010 that focuses on individuals with exceptionalities.
Identify keyword search terms: i.e., intellectual disabilities and instruction, autism spectrum disorder and communication, learning disabilities and reading instruction, etc. (if you need help identifying some key terms, we can discuss your interest areas to determine)
Select a research article from a peer-reviewed journal such as (these are some examples, there are many peer-reviewed journals to choose from):
Exceptional Children
Journal of Learning Disabilities
Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders
Teaching Exceptional Children
Journal of Intellectual Disabilities

Be sure you are signed into the library page with your NetID to access the full article text. Step 2 Reading
Read your article and focus on the following areas (see attached article review protocol to organize your thoughts):
Problem/ Topic: What do the authors identify as the research problem or the research question?
Procedure: How do the authors address the question through the research? What methods or interventions did the researchers use?
Results: What did the authors find or discover from the research?
Implications for the field: How does this research apply or impact the field of education?
Your response to the research: Analysis of the research from your perspective.
Attached is an article review protocol for your use in the review. You are not required to use this; it is just to help you organize your thoughts during the reading.
Step 3 Writing your review
Summarize the article and provide analysis from your perspective. See rubric attached for grading criteria.
Reviews should be in the following format:
Title Page
Summary and Analysis 2 to 4 pages with citations (not including title page)
Reference list
Times New Roman font 12 point, double spaced, APA 7 format
