Write a paper that focuses on several of the key policy and practice issues at the intersections of drug use and trade, criminal justice and public health. An essential element of participating in these debates is the ability to identify, understand and evaluate, in context, the scholarly literature from various disciplines that shape these conversations. While much of your experience focuses on conversations in and around criminology and social deviance, this assignment requires you to explore the health-focused literature on addiction, harm reduction, and related social determinants of health. Therefore, at least one of the first two authors must have a medical degree (e.g. MD, NP, PhD in a medical discipline, etc.)
The critique should communicate your understanding of the article’s main points and offer an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses. Moreover, the critique should comment on the article’s usefulness to policy-makers and practitioners working at the intersections of criminal justice and substance use, misuse and addiction. Be careful to select an article that is not purely directed at other researchers.
