Ecology Essay (2 pages)
Pick a species in your area and find out about its ecology. List the common and scientific name of the species you chose. For instance, the common name of pet dogs is domestic dog and the scientific name is Canis familiaris. Scientific names are always formatted as Genus species, with the genus name capitalized and both terms italicized. Also cover its ecology. What does the species you chose eat/how does it get food? What are its predators/what eats it? Where does the species you chose live, does it migrate, is it native, introduced, or invasive, if it is not native, where does it come from? When and how does it reproduce? What is its conservation status such as threatened, endangered, common, stable? How does the species interact with people (is it something like a tiger that may eat people, is it used for agriculture/sport such as a horse, do people eat it like a tuna, does it have spiritual significance or get used as a symbol like wolves or lions)? You need to use at least 2 of the Module 7 sources for this assignment as well as 2 outside sources and include a works cited and in-text citations. Remember to give credit any time that you are using the ideas, facts, and/or figures of someone else.
Term Paper (6 pages):
Pick a topic from one of the seven modules that we covered and find out what needs to be done about it in your local community. How can you either promote more education about it or otherwise help solve the problem? Who and what would you need to solve the problem and/or promote education?
Make sure to cite at least one peer-reviewed journal article about this topic. You can find such articles using Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, or other sources. Also make sure that you refer to at least 2 of the readings/talks about the topic from this course.
This paper should be 7 pages long, so feel free to delve into any details you think are necessary to make your point.
Example: If your community does not recycle, how could you bring recycling in or how could you encourage people to use the recycling sources that are available? For example, here we do not have curbside recycling collection. We do have recycling drop-offs throughout the city and the university has a great recycling center. What could be done to encourage people to use these drop-off locations?
