The SOW 215 Current Developmental Issues [CDI] Paper focuses on human development over the life course. The finished paper should be 3-4 pages in length . . The purpose of the paper is to help students make meaningful connections between course material and the “real world,” as well as nurturing writing skills and stimulating critical thinking. This is not simply an opinion paper. It needs to make a connection to the book and class materials. Any assertions that you make will need to have relevant and reliable evidence (with citation). Students will complete the paper on current issues in human development.
The paper should consist of the following components:
(a) Find an article published in the last 12 months , a newspaper or magazine (not a blog, ask.com, or non-reputable site) that illustrates a pertinent developmental phenomenon, concept, theory, issue, or research finding connected with the course content used in SOW 215. To focus your search, start by choosing a stage/age as discussed in this course. Include a link to the article with the assignment. You will need to provide the reference for the source on the title page your paper, including the author’s name, article title, article source (not a website only), page numbers for the article, date, and year of publication.
(b) Summarize the main points of the article. Give sufficient information so that anyone reading your paper would understand the article.
Write in a concise, clear, thoughtful, and specific way. Summarize the article in your own words; you may not plagiarize the article.
(c) Link the article to a developmental phenomenon, concept, theory, process, issue, or research finding covered in this course. Discuss the relevant stage/age in human development from the Tyler text.
