Using polished prose, but not necessarily “formal” style, choose three specific scenes in Parks’s adaptation of Native Son (you can find the film on HBO) to answer the following questions. How did the film make you feel? How did it make you feel as it did? Did that feeling or feelings complement or undermine what you think the text’s overt message was, or both? What new questions do you have about African American literary history now that you have engaged with this writer’s interpretation of their artistic precedent?
