Explain the difference between Descartes’s epistemology and Hume’s that results in their different conclusions–respectively, dualism and skepticism. You must address Descartes’s method of doubt as well as its justification (i.e., why does he doubt?), his doctrine of ideas, his introduction of the causal principle and his argument for dualism. You must address Hume’s theory of ideas and knowledge, principles of association, and his argument for skepticism. Finally, you must mount your own arguments for the plausibility of one or the other, or that neither is plausible (you must explain why you believe in your position and not merely state it).
