What does human geography mean to you? What do you think you are going to learn in this course? Why do you think studying human geography might be important? What do you think human geographers study and why? Over the course of the semester, you have now had a chance to read and engage with a diverse array of concepts, theories and topics that human geographers study. Your task in this assignment is to critically reflect on what you have learnt in this class and how it has changed the way you think about the world around you.
The final paper must be 1,000 words (excluding references) and should contain the following components:
Read your response to the questions posed on the first day of class. In about 250-300 words, tell me how your understanding of what human geography is and why it might be important to study has changed over the course of the semester.
In about 700-750 words, identify at least two (but no more than three) concepts or theoretical frameworks that you have encountered in this course that have really helped you make sense of the world around you. Your task is to not only describe these concepts or theories but also exactly how they changed your perspective or helped you understand the world in a new and different way.
In doing this, I want you to use at least 3 peer-reviewed sources and cite them in the format used by the Annals of the American Association of Geographers, the flagship journal of our discipline in the U.S. Here’s a link to the style guide: https://www.tandf.co.uk//journals/authors/style/reference/tf_USChicagoB.pdf. The sources could be from the course materials or based on any additional research you do. The only requirement is that they must be peer-reviewed.
