Create a “Park Brochure”
This assignment will count as your final project. It is due on Monday, December 6 at midnight. No late papers will be accepted.
Students will create a park brochure that identifies and communicates a topic of environmental issue/concern from anywhere in the world. There are many examples, at various geographic scales; including, habitat disturbance ( ex: desertification near the Sonoran Desert), pollution (dead zones in the Indian Ocean and plastic soups in the Pacific Ocean, ice caps melting, flooding, ocean acidification, sea level rise, etc.). Students will propose possible alternatives and solutions which could pertain to environmental health, official policy changes, ethical dilemmas, or sustainable tourism. Brochure is to consist of 2 pages with 3 columns per page and will include at least 1000 word of text and at least three sited graphics/ images. Brochure should include references for at least three sources in a footnote format. Follow these steps:
1. Identify a geographical area. This can be part of a country, a whole country, or a region (combination of two or more countries). It cannot be an entire continent or the world. An overly broad topic like “climate change” is not acceptable. *I am also requesting that “Deforestation of the Amazon” is not used as a topic choice.
2. Must be approximately 1,000 words over 2 pages in 3 columns on each page.
3. Discuss the impact of at least one environment issue in your selected geographical area. Do not simply discuss climate change and global warming, but focus on their effects, such as sea level rise, desertification, ocean acidification, etc.
4. Include graphics such as photographs, diagrams, tables.
5. Cite at least three sources of reference as footnotes.
