How do schools respond to cultural diversity? What is school like for students in those diverse groups? What educational practices impact diverse students? Do all students from these diverse groups experience school the same way? These questions help you think about and choose your topic for a literature review on an educational topic. Your job is to write a report that synthesizes research on your educational topic. * A literature review IS NOT the same as a research paper. In this review, you will be outlining the research on the current state of your educational topic. You′ll identify themes or trends based on the research you find and present the information in a report. This report will be written in APA format. Resources for writing in APA format will be provided in GA View. Getting Started: Choose your topic from the approved topics list. Begin your research and locate 2 sources of information from educational websites (like Edutopia). Once you have found your articles you will complete the ″Article Analysis″ table. This document will help you dig into the articles and better understand the current state of your educational topic. Next Steps: Continue to research your topic and locate 2 peer reviewed articles from Galileo on your educational topic. Once you have found your additional sources, you′ll finish the ″Article Analysis″ table. The end of the document will help you identify themes or trends based on the research you found. The themes/trends will become how you organize your literature review. Final Step: Now you will create a report/review of the information your have found on your educational topic. This report is a synthesis of the information. It′s your chance to present the current state of your topic. Describe the topic or problem area. Note why the topic is important and why it is worth studying Discuss how the research (that is, its findings, methods, trends, and theories) Report what the literature says, not what you think Your Literature Review will contain the following parts: Introduction: An introductory paragraph that explains what your working topic and thesis is A forecast of key topics or texts that will appear in the review Potentially, a desсrіption of how you found sources and how you analyzed them for inclusion and discussion in the review (more often found in published, standalone literature reviews than in lit review sections in an article or research paper) Body: Summarize and synthesize: Based on your identified themes/trends. describe what the research says about your topic. Analyze and interpret: Don’t just paraphrase other researchers – add your own interpretations where possible, discussing the significance of findings in relation to the literature as a whole Critically Evaluate: Mention the strengths and weaknesses of your sources Write in well-structured paragraphs: Use transition words and topic sentence to draw connections, comparisons, and contrasts. Conclusion: Summarize the key findings you have taken from the literature and emphasize their significance Connect it back to your primary research question Annotated Bibliography This is like a reference page, but it includes a summary of the research, the application to your topic, and any identified Themes/Trends.
