Assignment: For the Final Argument Project, you will write an argumentative paper of at least 8 full pages. The purpose of this paper will be to identify a specific problem or issue within the course theme of media and entertainment, and you will write an argument. Remember that an academic argument is not only a debate or a competition. It is more fluidly defined as a discussion with a clear message and purpose, with the aim of continuing the production of knowledge within a larger conversation. PLEASE USE 6 ACADEMIC ARTICLES OUT OF THE 10 SOURCES NEEDED. Use these steps to figure out a potential issue to write about: What are you interested in? What are you passionate about? What media do you consume regularly? What entertains you? What entertainment do you dislike? What issue or problem are you interested in, regarding this topic or subject? The more specific you become with this issue and your argument about the issue, the more successful and developed your paper will be. Begin researching this issue/problem. Your research will lead you to further refining your argument and the way you want to analyze this issue/problem. Analyze the research you have found. Continue questioning these sources and examining the way they participate in a conversation. Rhetorically analyze all research to gain a more complex, complete, and thoughtful understanding of these voices in the conversation. How do your sources continue to shape your argument? How can you participate in this conversation and push the conversation into more interesting places? Again, you may choose any issue you want, relevant to the course theme, and use any form of media as research. You will want a variety of different kinds of sources to have a well-rounded and developed research project: scholarly sources, sources from the internet, other forms of media, videos, etc. The point is that you bring pressure to and analyze the research at hand. If something is fallacious or lacks credibility, bring that up in your paper! Complicate and problematize the sources you have found. Use at least 10 different sources (6 must be academic articles). Prioritize your research. This is not something you can do quickly at the end of your writing process. Things You Need to Demonstrate: Focused and developed thesis Rhetorical awareness of audience and rhetorical effect Developing ideas and engaging in your own personal intellectual curiosity Analysis through careful close reading and larger questioning and problematizing of the issue Claims and evidence/support Using legitimate sources by quoting and paraphrasing effectively Engaging in a conversation Paragraphs are focused, developed, and organized into larger idea chunks/sections Introductions and conclusions are concise and effectiveShow more
