Modeling the Critical Response Process Using Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process as a guide: As a group, choose a work of art (film clip, acting role clip, play, etc) to focus on. It should be a piece of art that everyone in the group can be familiar with. Research the artist responsible for your work of art. Cast the members of your group into the following roles: Artist (1 person) Facilitator (1 person) Responder (2 or 3 people) Create a small “play” modeling the critical response process. This play should follow the structure (4 steps) of the process: Facilitator asks responders for statements of meaning 1. Each Responder(s) should contribute at least two statements of meaning Artist asks responders questions 1. Artist should ask responders 2-4 questions total, responder(s) answer Responder(s) ask neutral questions 1. Each Responder(s) should ask at least 2 neutral questions and allow artist to answer if artist would like. Permissioned Opinions 1. Each Responder(s) should ask to share at least 2 opinions 1. Artist should respond “yes” to at least two opinions and “no” to at least one. The facilitator is responsible for leading the process and moving it through the four steps. Your “play” should be 7-10 minutes long, but may not exceed 10 minutes I know you can’t have other people on this, so you can make up people for the writing.
