“Select one-two archetypes that, in your opinion, is/are best represented in current pop culture. whether they are in films, books, television shows, comic books… Connect these pop culture archetypes with at least two counterparts from our literary readings, employing a comparison/contrast approach”
(For this essay, the main archetypes we learned about were the temptress archetype and the scapegoat archetype so I would want one of those to be talked about or both.)
OR ANOTHER POSSIBLE TOPIC FOR THE 8 PAGE PAPER:
“During the course of the semester, we have encountered numerous traitors, some of them obvious choices and others more subtle. Choose a minimum of three literary traitors that we’ve covered and analyze their behavior and effects on their victims. Suggestions: the negative mother image in fairytales, Claudius (Hamlet), the White Witch (the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe). You may also include a cinematic traitor who has recently been portrayed in a film if you find one that shares common ground with the literary traitors.”
For both essays the same readings can be used. The literary readings that we have read thus far are
– Shakespeare’s Hamlet
– The Trojan War
– C.S. Lewis’ The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
– Original Fairytales such as: Beauty and the Beast, Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Greek, the Little Mermaid (Hans Christian Andersen), the Snow Queen (Hans Christian Andersen)
