The first package of articles, Silicon Valley Management, Pro and Con, are all written by management experts (rather than advocates for workers, for example). What do they see as the positive lessons that Silicon Valley provides to the rest of corporate America? The negative lessons? The ones that are “contradictory,” as one article puts it? If you want, you can make lists. “Activision Blizzard,” “Crunch,” and “Ghost Work” take us down from the airy heights of labor management theory to the realities of the shop floor. Summarize the problems of the tech industry outlined here. In what ways are they simply modern versions of Taylorism, and in what ways are they something new? How would a manager at Activision or Microsoft respond? Greenbaum wrote this book in 2004. First, summarize the key points of Greenbaum’s argument.
