3. The purpose of this assignment is to reflect on the impact trauma has on a person. You can highlight aspects of their life which are impacted (such as ACE’s). Identify your own values, goals, and sense of self as related to topics of life and experiences with trauma. Assess how your values, goals, and sense of self impacts relationships with children and families. You can assess the impact of your values and reflections, and the impact on your socialization outcomes, and cultural behavior patterns. Discuss topics in the Levine and T.I.P. textbooks, and lectures which resonated with you, connecting it to how your work with children may be impacted by the knowledge you gained.

Specifically, you can reflect on your current understanding of how persons (you as a person or how persons in general) are impacted by trauma. The values and goals are evidence of further reflection. For example; if having a close family is a value of yours, how might that impact you as you come across a challenge with a student and you are observing this value as less important to the family for various reasons (from your perspective). Another value might be “honesty”. If honesty is a value of yours, what challenges do you imagine might come up with someone impacted by trauma? (Some might consider that trauma could play a role in someone being honest or dishonest– How might you handle that, knowing its a value of yours and knowing that sometimes things aren’t that simple?) To answer another point in the question; If you are going into the Childhood Education field (a goal) or becoming a dentist (goal) how might you use what you have learned in this class to benefit you and your future students.
