Construct a book list for a content area thematic unit for your classroom. You will need to identify a grade level, the topic, and the time frame for the unit (no less than two (2) weeks). Keep the topic broad enough to be able to incorporate language arts and the content area you have designed.
You will need to include an annotated bibliography of at least 10 titles, to include:
Fictional texts (picture or chapter books)
Informational texts
Poetry
Biography
Provide a rationale for why you choose these books and use APA style citations.
You will also need to identify 1-2 websites to use or types of technology you might use with the unit.
The texts should represent a range of reading levels so that all students in a grade level class can benefit from reading these books and contributing to the class conversations. Designate 1-2 texts that you might read-aloud to the class, which texts might be used with small groups, and which texts you might use with individual students.
Identify 3-4 learning outcomes for the unit
Choose which skills and strategies to teach – provide TX TEKS for the grade level
Design at least 4 activities that fit the content area and address either writing, reading or oral language ELA standards.
Some examples of literacy activities:
Designate how you might use the texts as a resource to an individual or small group inquiry project
How might you use the texts as a literature discussion group
Have students write a personal narrative after listening to/reading the texts
Have students write a Reader’s Theater script based on texts
Provide a timeline for unit. Describe how you would assess student learning for each of the outcomes.
