A genogram is helpful when obtaining client history or to better understand the relational patterns in a family (or what a parent is bringing to the table). Create a genogram of your family following the example by OliveMeCounseling https://www.olivemecounseling.com/blog/genogram. (Use her template and icons/legend.) If you watch her video, it explains her example of Ross from Friends. Post a picture of your genogram in your post and complete a brief write-up of it focusing on the relationship patterns and family dynamics. For this assignment, your writeup will be as if this (your) family is your client…so briefly write about relationship patterns/family dynamics that are apparent from the “conversation” you would have had about the genogram. Include information and history ONLY as is helpful in demonstrating the relationship patterns, underlying feelings, and reasons involved in the issues (don’t include information you don’t want your peers to see and you can change names/ages if it makes you more comfortable). Stay on track by asking yourself, “Am I analyzing relationships or giving a family history?” Include what it was like to analyze your family relationships this way.
