1. State your research topic and purpose. 2. State your research question(s). 3. List and label the variables as independent, dependent, intervening, or moderating. 4. State your hypothesis. 5. Describe the limitations present in your study. Be thorough. 6. Describe what the results would look like if the data supports your hypothesis. 7. Describe what the results would look like if your data does not support your hypothesis. 8. If the data supports your hypothesis, explain what conclusions would you draw and what recommendations would you make. WHAT I HAVE SO FAR 1. State your research topic and purpose. Begin The research explores the differences in the educational level of teachers in schools that are predominantly African American to those that are predominantly Caucasian. The purpose of this study is to highlight the importance of the educational level of educators in the quality of education received by African American students. 2. State your research question(s) (a) Does the educational level of teachers and administrators play a part in the level of quality education received by African American students and Caucasian students relatively? (b) Do students perform lower on a standard test when teachers are not certified in education? 3. List and label the variables as independent, dependent, intervening, or moderating. The independent variable is the ethnic composition of the school and the dependent variable is the educational level of the teacher. 4. State your hypothesis. The alternate hypothesis is that the qualities of education of African American and Caucasian students get different impacts from the education level of their teachers. FEEDBACK THAT I RECEIVED Comments: Your aren’t studying relationships. That is a correlation study. Change your hypothesis.. Quality of education isn’t one of your variables. Your dependent variable is achievement There is no difference in the achievement of students when the teacher has a bachelor, masters or doctorial degree. If you look at ethnicity, you will have 2 independent variables and that will make your study much more complicated. If you want to add in ethnicity, then you will have 2 hypothesis. There is no difference in the achievement of students for different ethnicities. Then the one with teacher education will stay. The last one will be… There is no difference in the achievement of students of different ethnicities and teacher education levels. When you have 2 independent variables, you have 3 null hypotheses. You need to change your questions. Remove the standardized test question. You have your variables incorrect. The independent variable is the ethnic makeup of the school and the dependent variable is the education level. Your study is causal comparative. Your null hypothesis shouldn’t have correlation in it. You aren’t doing a correlation study. There is not difference in the level of education in the teachers of predominately Caucasian and predominately African American schools. I think an ethnographic approach would work well for your study.
