Through research, interviews, and collaboration with other teachers, you have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of major theories and research related to the structure and acquisition of language to help English learners (Els) develop language and literacy. Moreover, you will demonstrate your commitment to continuous study in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). In this process, you should use research-based, language acquisition theories to mold your personal philosophy on the acquisition of English as Another Language. You will examine your beliefs about P-12 English learners and their families, your role and responsibility as a teacher of English learners to ensure that they improve their English proficiency levels while learning content, the role and responsibility of the school in providing for the needs of English learners and their families, and the importance of collaboration with teachers of English learners and the ESOL coordinator at your school.
Research at least two (2) scholarly resources concerning theories on the acquisition of English as Another Language, two (2) scholarly resources on improving teaching and assessment practices, and one (1) scholarly resource on the history of ESOL teaching. You will have a total of five (5) scholarly resources. Your textbook may count as a scholarly resource.
