The circumstances surrounding the gaining of independence. 3. The politics of the country since independence. 4. Social, economic, and cultural trends since independence. Mechanics • You should consult at least three different sources (books, journal articles) of information for each paper. Avoid non-scholarly sources, such as amateur enthusiasts’ web sites. • Papers must be double-spaced with numbered pages and submitted in both paper and electronic form. • Suggested length: a minimum of 5 pages each (not counting notes/bibliography). • Proper references (footnotes or parenthetical) and bibliography or list of works cited in a standard format (MLA, Chicago, and APA are acceptable).
