As we continue to explore intersectionality, meaning gender “and,” one of the intersections of gender includes sexuality; so, gender AND sexuality. The Jessica Lynne story should have shed some light on how the experience of being a trans woman is nuanced. However, one matter of importance about this intersection is how much gender is involved in the marginalization of the trans community. For example, there are high rates of violence against trans people in the U.S. But which trans people? Typically, black trans women. We do not see the same rates of violence against trans-men. Particularly, white trans-men. Similarly, trans folks usually experience precarious socioeconomic conditions. But which trans folks? Typically trans women. Trans men often experience positive changes in their socioeconomic conditions.
