The essay is a project proposal about my project. The proposal is about reducing the waiting list in my clinic (aural clinic). The context is that during the covid pandemic my clinic was closed whilst I had to work in intensive care. On my return, not only postponed appointments, the new referrals have to wait until August 2022. (9 months waiting list) I have been having discussions about getting one other nurse to work in the clinic with me, but after many discussions, for a long long time, I will focus on other strategies to reduce the waiting list. My proposal will focus on developing these strategies in my project. The 2 main strategies are, 1. streaming new referrals, prioritising them to be seen within 18 weeks (referral to treatment) and 2 a patient-initiated follow-up (open access). Both are key in “Transforming elective care services: ear, nose and throat-ENT” published by NHS England. Of the 2 the first one seems to have a bigger impact on the waiting list, and the second on customer experience.
