Analyze and exemplify* how Internet news media, social media, and search engine algorithms “supercharge” and exploit our confirmation biases “without consulting [us] about it” (as Eli Pariser puts it.) How do these online “filter bubbles” we live in on the Internet interfere with critical thinking? (Using a couple of the elements of our active definition of “critical thinking” in Module 1 to guide your organization in this area would be useful). Also, examine and evaluate 1 or 2 strategies covered in Module 4 for popping our filter bubbles. *As support for points you have fully explained, you may incorporate examples raised not only in the sources covered in class but also patterns that you may notice on your own news feed or social media feed. By looking at what’s there, what’s not there, what kinds of stories are emphasized/de-emphasized, etc. do you notice patterns emerging that may be at least partially due to algorithmic filtering?
