Topic:
Does Kants second formulation of the categorical imperative provide an adequate way to judge
the morality of personal actions, societal meanings/norms, and governmental laws? Your
position will be either it does provide a way to judge these, or it doesnt provide such a way.
Paper structure:
I) Provide an opening paragraph which briefly sketches the topic you selected and your
position concerning it.
II) Explain the main arguments concerning the topic. As you do so take care to provide key
definitions and use examples where helpful.
III) Develop your position, which is your answer to the question. To do this youll need to
provide the reasons supporting your position. In other words, you are to provide an argument
to support your position.
IV) Provide a closing paragraph which briefly explains why someone should accept your
position.
Audience:
Assume the reader of your paper is interested in the topic but not necessarily well versed in it.
Writing for such a person will better demonstrate your knowledge of the topic and improve your
prospects for a good grade.
