What is a Who Knew?

Who Knew discussions are an effective way to encourage students to think critically about your coursework and interact with each others ideas. You can create discussions around individual course lessons. It is a written summary (Powerpoint or google slides, etc. may be used) of a topic identified in the course curriculum chapters followed by a voluntary 5 7 minute verbal presentation by a student to the class. New (and potentially intriguing) information which has been acquired from a reputable source. (e.g. , The New York Times, Peer Review Journals no textbooks or references) is preferable. This new information will be related or relevant to the class subject material , reviewed and approved by the instructor. A class discussion will follow.

The Who Knew will demonstrate the students, understanding of the topic, the relevance of the topic to life span development and presentation skills (if desired). The presentation will also foster communication and discussion among the students.

The student will present a hard copy of the information (including source), or submit the source and summary, as described above, in Blackboard, to the instructor prior to the presentation. Students who are not sure of their Who Knew choice may show their information to the instructor at any time before their presentation for review and /or clarification.
