These Are the Instructions! The paper’s length is 4-5 pages, which means 4 full pages as a minimum to avoid grade penalty; 5 pages give you the best chance at a higher grade. Glenn Altschuler and Stuart Blumin in their book The GI Bill: A New Deal for Veterans wrote about the legislative construction and subsequent impact of the GI Bill. They describe the primarily remembered aspects of the legislation, the educational and mortgage assistance, as well as less-well remembered aspects of the law. They strive to both understand the legend of the bill as a major transformative element in the second half of twentieth-century America while also stripping away “…the stories and the praise..” to “…gain a more dispassionate understanding of the bill’s role in the shaping of postwar American.” (4) For this paper, you will be using the book as evidence to support your answer to the following question: Was the GI Bill a success or a failure? A good paper will provide an answer that explains how the bill was either a success or a failure. Additionally, a solid essay will consider how the other option is not an apt description of the bill. If you decide that the best answer is both a success and a failure, explaining how both can be true and not true at the same time will be necessary for a good paper. Finally, the paper should end with a short paragraph where you answer the question: if you were in a position to use the GI Bill, would you use it and why? The best papers will avoid lapsing into informal writing with this final paragraph. SUBMIT THE PAPER/EXAM IN PDF FORMAT ONLY! If I can’t open the paper, then the grade will be a zero. Avoid this problem by saving your final draft in PDF format and uploading that version of the paper. -Margins: use one-inch margins on all sides. (I can tell if you don’t, and if I’m unsure, I’ll check with a ruler); do not assume that the word processor you are using automatically uses this setting; many do not. Check your word processor program to make sure that the page setup is at one inch for all four sides. -Spacing: use double spacing, and keep it even throughout the paper. (I can tell if you don’t.) Be sure to change the paragraph settings to “double space” and not “multiple.” Watch out for extra spacing automatically added at the end of a paragraph; you don’t want that, so you might need to change the “After” value to zero in the paragraph settings. -Title Page: DON’T USE ONE! -Font: Use Arial 12 point (except for the name, etc., in the header; see below) -Citations: YOU MUST USE QUOTATIONS!!! If you do not use quotations in the assignment, your grade will be a zero. -No outside sources [NONE, don’t want them] -Place your name and the date in the upper right-hand corner of the paper, in the header, not in the text area. Right justify this information, and shrink the font size to 8. -Place page numbers in the footer, and center them. -Use a one-line title at the top of the first page that explains your paper; don’t use “My Paper,” “The Paper,” “The [Insert Author name] Paper,” or anything boring like that. Make the title interesting to the reader without being silly or profane. – No Works Cited or Bibliography page! No Separate Title page! If any of these are present, the paper grade will drop a letter grade for each one. The only source that can be used is the GI BILL A NEW DEAL FOR VETERANS Book! Only USE a THIRD PERSON!! END OF INSTRUCTIONS I believe GI BILL was Successful, and I would have used the GI bill for my rights! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!
