(Different sources of data suggest that catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in older adults are ailments that constantly pose a threat to patients who have undergone surgery. Using urinary catheters on hospitalized patients dealing with urinary incontinence is crucial in caregiving (Adegun et al., 2019). However, the prolonged use of catheter on this group of patients amplifies their risk of developing infections. The risk of such infections is heightened, especially during the insertion, removal, and maintenance of these assistive devices. A poor observation of the desired protocols amplifies the patient’s risk of CAUTI (Adegun et al., 2019). The goal of this study is to gather more evidence-based data regarding CAUTI that may help guide the formulation of new policies regarding discontinuing urinary catheter immediate after surgery.
