Create a curriculum project that is appropriate for your area of expertise. The topic is mathematics (2nd grade). Length of the project will depend upon the appropriate grade-level, and other factors. The most important factor is that the project is relevant to your current or future teaching goals. Also essential is the inclusion of discipline specific literacy components. The literacy components should exemplify your personal understanding of essential literacy skills and strategies within your endorsement area. The summary sheet will be posted and shared with classmates, so format for that section should be conducive to maximum use by others. The student will use the following format in designing and labeling the curriculum project:
General descriiption: a general descriiption including what is going to happen, who will be involved, what activities will take place, and what curriculum content will be delivered;
Rationale: the purpose of the project and why it is needed;
Unit goals and objectives: objectives that are specific and which you believe will be realized through the completion of this project; Unit goals and objectives linked to relevant curriculum standards, including discipline specific TN Literacy Standards appropriate for your chosen grade level which are located on the TN Dept. of Ed website (state the standards with the goals);
Instructional strategies and action plans: instructional strategies or methods used to deliver the content; strategies and action plans which include a technology component, a TN Literacy discipline specific component, and differentiated instructional strategies;
Evaluation Plan: how the accomplishment of the stated objectives will be evaluated; Formative and summative evaluation plans;
Curriculum mapping time-frame: indicating where this project fits in the overall curriculum;
Summary Sheet: The format is: Student Name; Subject/Grade Level of the Project (example – Math Grade 5) and a Summary of basic facts regarding the project (phrases, bullets encouraged). The Summary should not exceed one page.
Sources: Sources used should include the TN Academic Standards.
