Week 5 Discussion
Instructions: PLEASE CREATE A SEPARATE THREAD FOR EACH DISCUSSION TOPIC
Discussion #1
Please read Key Concepts for Project Integration Management PMBOK paragraph X4.1 on page 673.
Integrated Change Control [PMBOK Chapter 4.6] is a multi-dimensional aspect of project management that requires substantial effort on the part of the project manager.
PMBOK Table 4.1 page 89 denotes all aspects of the Project Management Plan and associated documents for the conduct / management of a successful project. Certain of these documents listed need to be placed under configuration management according to your Team’s Configuration Management Plan [discussed in PMBOK Chapter 5.6.1.1]. Once placed on the configuration item list after receiving stakeholder approval as a prelude to project Execution, these documents cannot be altered without successfully passing through the formal or informal project change control process that you as project manager established according to the strictures of an Integrated Change Control Process [PMBOK 4.6].
Configuration items undergo aperiodic verifications / audits to ensure the functional requirements defined in the configuration item remain correct and that all approved changes affecting the configuration item up to this point have been included. The project Team has identified your project’s Quality Metrics document as a configuration item.
Assignment –
Your current project is to manufacture 7000 pre-finished solid core oak interior household doors for the ABC Door & Shovel Company located in a northern province of Alaska. During a configuration audit conducted at the 50% point of the project’s production run, the audit revealed that the width requirement noted in the Quality Metrics document was misstated resulting in 3500 doors being cut smaller than the required metric thereby rendering the doors useless in satisfying the Customer’s requirement. Upon discovering the error, the project manager was briefed by the Quality Manager on the situation and all production was halted. The project manager consulted the Requirements Traceability Matrix and verified that the customer requirement related to door width was indeed misstated in the Quality Metrics document. The project manager then submitted a change request to the Change Control Board whereupon in emergency session the change request to amend the Quality Metrics document was approved for implementation. Root cause analysis related to the source of the expensive error was initiated immediately as well.
Based on this scenario, which of the following project documentation at a minimum will require an amendment / update as a result of the approved change request. Please explain the reasoning for your choice:
A. Cost Baseline, Schedule Baseline, and Scope Baseline
B. Schedule Baseline, Risk Management Plan and Configuration Management Plan
C. Scope Baseline, Change Management Plan, and Project Scope Statement
D. Quality Control Plan
E. All of the above
F. A and D only
G. B and C only
Please enter your responses in the Discussion area and be prepared to substantiate your choices to your classmates. As is the standard protocol, all classmates are expected to comment on at least two (for the minimum grade) of the postings of your fellow classmates and to continue any ensuing discussions.

Please review the Case Study and provide answers to the following questions:
1. Who are the stakeholders of this project?
2. Who are the key stakeholders of the project?
3. What impacts could these requested changes have on the budget?
4. Could these requested changes also impact the schedule? If so, how?
5. What is Global Green Book’s process for dealing with changes from their customers? Do you see any possible issues with this process?
6. Create a viable change process work flow that will position Global Green Books to better handle these changes. Be sure to articulate the key players and their role(s) in this process.
7. What should Global Green Books do about the conflicting inputs from their customer the bookstore manager who wants inexpensive eBooks and the professor who wants the best and most up-to-date collection of readings possible for her courses?
