Write a paper exploring a specific folk group. This paper should include a clear identification of the folklore group and what makes them a group. You should explore group dynamics, traditions, and folk texts specific to the group (narratives, materials, ceremonial texts, etc…). You could also look at how a specific group has changed over time, what changed occurred and why. You should if at all possible interview people who are part of this group; this is not required but is highly suggested. Write a paper on how a specific folk narrative has changed over time. This paper should explore the context and meaning of the original text within the folk group it originated from as well as the context and meaning that the different versions of the narrative have held in their new renditions. You should explore how the narrative has changed over time and what precipitated the change. Analyze each text using the theories we have discussed in class. You should if possible interview members of the folk group that your chosen story has meaning for, this is not required but is highly suggested. Folklore Archive Paper. Gather a folklore text from any of the types we have discussed in class, or one we have not yet had a chance to discuss, and explore that text in greater detail. Write about the culture the text comes from, the meaning of the text according to that culture, and the context in which is it performed. Analyze each text using the theories we have discussed in class. Some examples of folklore you could examine are: a traditional dance, a specific tradition, a song or ballad, a piece of material folklore, a story, legend or myth, a foodway. You must fill out a folklore archive form, which will be included in the appendix of your paper; it will not count towards your page count. Final Draft: Your final draft must have the following: APA 7 style this includes: A cover page Abstract Page numbers Properly cited sources A Reference List at the end of the paper Formal language An opening paragraph which contains your thesis statement A concluding paragraph that summarizes and makes your point Releases for anyone you interview placed after the Reference List in an appendix At least 4 scholarly resources (this means resources which have been peer reviewed and published)
