A. To prepare for this first part, please watch the video interview with Henry Raymond, PhD, faculty member at the Rutgers SPH. In that interview, he describes an outbreak investigation in Illinois in 2015. To learn more, please read the MMWR report on the outbreak, link below and in the Module 13 outline. Then answer the questions (1-2 sentences) below and submit the file or text to Canvas.

1. How was the potential outbreak of HIV first detected and how did local public health officials respond?
2. How did the investigators identify as many cases as possible in a short time frame?
3. What types of data and information from cases did the investigators collect to learn more about the transmission of HIV in this situation?
4. After declaring a public health emergency, what action did the public health officials take to respond to the situation and prevent further cases?
B. Epidemiology games! Go the CDC website (Solve the Outbreak) shown below and choose one of the Level I outbreaks that they have set up as a game. Go through the outbreak investigation process with at least one outbreak, then answer the question below.

In Chapter 12, Friis shows steps 1-5 in an outbreak investigation, beginning with “1. Define the problem” and ending with “5. Draw conclusions and formulate practical applications”. Summarize your efforts in your game outbreak investigation, and show how the outbreak your chose fit (or did not fit) the description of each of the steps (1-5) involved.
