Nurses interact with solutions daily. Many of the components of the body, as well as many medications, are solutions. Nurses need to be able to calculate the concentration of dissolved particles in these solutions and understand how concentration plays a role in the movement of particles through the body. Not all mixtures however are solutions, nurses also need to be able to differentiate between solutions and other types of mixtures.
