Writing Prompt Throughout this module, you learned about satire. This is now your chance to write your own piece of satire! First, take some time to look through current news headlines. Feel free to ask your teacher for some ideas about how to search for major current events. Think about how you feel about these events. Does one stick out in particular? Is there something that upsets you that you would like to see changed? Remember, this could be a current event in your school or local community; it does not have to be a national or world event. Write about the event as a satire to show how and why the change needs to occur. Unlike many of the major writing assignments in this course, you have a lot more freedom to write this piece creatively. In fact, take some time to think about all the different writing strategies you witnessed in Module 6: anecdote hyperbole tone (satire is usually sarcastic, right?) understatement dialogue Regionalism characteristics shifts in point of view irony (several kinds) Think about some other strategies that you liked or that you′d like to include in your own writing.
