You are a new Director of Health Information Management. As a new member of the leadership team of University Hospital, you have been asked by the CEO to prepare a report. Your report (3-5 page paper) will answer the following questions:
How, specifically, will you assess the HIM department during your first 90 days to be a successful leader in the service of others?
What human resources strategies will you utilize to maintain your department?
Regarding your staff, what is the first thing you would do in the department to interact with your staff? How will you assess, define, and develop an understanding of cultural diversity?
What existing behaviors will you look for within your employees?
How will you determine if your department’s contributions align with the strategic goals of the organization?
How will you maintain standards of ethical practice in your HIM department?
This question deals with relationship building and how you, as a direct report to the CEO of the hospital, will make relationships and your presence known. How will you go about developing relationships with all senior leaders to support your efforts in an ‘informal reporting structure’?
As a new leader, you will need to rely on several people and things. In order to be a successful leader in the organization, what functional and administrative materials, people, departments, systems, and/or vendors would you rely on as part of your first 90 days at University Hospital?
