Case study: Julies Flight Julie is a 65-year-old grandmother recently returned home to Victoria, BC, after visiting her daughter and four grandchildren who live in Australia. She tries to get through the long flights by watching several movies and then sleeping for as long as possible. She does not like to drink too much during the flight because of those annoying line-ups for the washroom. A day after returning home, Julie notices that her left leg is painful and swollen. The next morning the pain in her left leg is worse and her leg is so swollen that she cant even fit her left foot into her slipper. She decides to visit the visits emergency room of the local hospital. While waiting for the doctor Julie begins to feel faint and short of breath and experiences sudden, sharp chest pain, mostly on the right side. Her shortness of breath gets worse, as does the chest pain. Julie coughs and produces sputum mixed with bright red blood.
