Final Paper – Persuasion
Throughout the semester we have been learning about multiple intercepts between the criminal justice arena and mental health. There have been multiple areas in which we have explored policies, laws and approaches to attempt to address needs at this intersection to the best of our current abilities.
For this assignment, you will be identifying one of these topic areas to address. In particular, you are to write a persuasive letter to your congressperson. This letter will make a case for some improvement, change or consideration of an existing program, policy or law that you believe needs to be improved on. You will want to describe the situation as it is currently understood. Describe the change you believe would be beneficial and why this change is desired. Be sure to make your recommendation to include how this improvement may be made.
All semester you have been writing in an objective fashion. This exercise calls for a more persuasive style of writing. In addition, you need to make your case in no more than 2 pages (not counting a reference page), to increase your odds that you will keep the attention of your representative by making your point quickly and concisely. If you reference articles, a reference page may be attached to the 2 pages. Also, be sure to follow appropriate formatting for letter writing.
