I will add a document with suggested reading
You will create a RESEARCH DESIGN PROPOSAL in 2,500 words (+/- 10%). The proposal
will explore the purpose and construction of each of the key parts of the research
process.
You will need to identify key elements of the research process (Ive helped you with this
below) and read the methodological literature. You are aiming for a proposal that
demonstrates the key parts in the research process and the contribution these make to the
creation of a robust, transparent, and ethical research project.
Your proposal should include the following sections:
Research topic How do researchers identify a suitable topic; how do they search
for current knowledge on that topic; how do they know where the gaps, debates and
challenges are in that topic (hint this is the job of the literature review)?
Research question How do researchers devise a coherent and doable research
question; and what factors do they need to consider when they construct the
research question?
Methodology – What is the methodological approach; what are the different possible
methodological approaches researchers could utilise, with some examples of
different methods that could be utilised by each methodological approach; what are
the opportunities and challenges of the different methodological approaches; what
are the key principles of data collection; and what are the key principles of data
analysis?
Creating new knowledge How do researchers integrate their research findings
with the existing knowledge base to create new knowledge and to address the
research question?
Ethics – Where do research ethics fit in the process; what are the fundamental
principles of research ethics; what types of projects need to think about research
ethics; what is the purpose of an ethical application process for research?
Participation, Feedback and Reflection Participation, feedback and reflection are
fundamental to the research process. Use this section to think about the
conversations, debates and discussions you have had about research since you started your programme, give some examples of research conversations
you have participated in; what feedback have you had on your thoughts,
discussions and debates about research, give some examples of this feedback and
reflect on how this participation and feedback contributed to your understanding of
the research process.
References – reference every section of your research design proposal (except
perhaps the Participation, Feedback and Reflection section), and provide a full
Reference List at the end of the proposal. The literature you access and cite will
predominately be from the methodology field this can include scholarly books,
peer review articles, videos, etc. (The assignment asks you to consider what you need to consider in a research proposal. Essentially, it is testing your understanding of the process.
