Overview Traditionally, proprietary information, trade secrets, patents, cost and price calculations, and company strategies were stored in file drawers and vaults at physical locations. Theft by adversaries was prosecuted as a criminal act because the thief had violated property law. Increasingly, company assets are stored digitally, in a virtual, or cyber “space” where concepts of property and ownership may not be as clearly defined. “Cybersecurity” is now an industry buzzword. Assignment For this assignment: Step 1: Review Selected Resources on Cyber Espionage (and conduct additional research, if you choose): Cyber-Espionage Nightmare: MIT Technology Review (Links to an external site.) (CBS News/2016) Step 2: Write a short essay (between 600 – 800 words) and address the following: Why do foreign countries or entities want information from businesses in other countries? Do you think that physical theft of information (physical take away/stealing) is still taking place (besides cyber-attacks)? Who should be responsible for securing company digital information – Corporate Security or Information Technology (IT) departments? Your paper will be checked through Turnitin, a service that checks your work for improper citation or potential plagiarism by comparing it against a database of web pages, student papers, and articles from academic books and publications.Show more
