Read Kafka’s “Before the Law.” It is a short story that reads more like a fable. People often think of fables as not real, but that isn’t very helpful. Most things that we read are not real, and yet they are very moving and still impart wisdom and truth. That is what a good fable does: it imparts wisdom and truth. All literature imparts wisdom and truth. However, Fables do so in a concentrated form that resembles something of a dream. Write an essay in which you make an argument about the wisdom and/or truth in “Before the Law” and “Signal Man.”
