Reading #1: Mexica Women on the Homefront (pdf)

Indigenous women were seen as evil because friars viewed them from afar as temptation. The only reason they had consider some civilized because they had had children and were housewives.
On the reading it stated “.. friars’ minds the Mexica women was split into an evil side and a good side, and the good side was perceived according to European notions of female submissiveness and domestic enterprise.” (p27). The friars already have a standard to how they want the indigenous women and Christian women to behave.

Reading#3: To Lose Ones Soul (pdf)

The cases of Juan Bautista and Nicols Bazn are good examples of the
circumstances under which more than one hundred slaves were held account-
able for blasphemy in colonial Mexico, between 1596 and 1669. As victims of
cruelty and mistreatment, black slaves renounced God and His saints to pro-
voke the intervention of the Inquisition as a way to be freed, at least for a
moment, from the harsh working conditions they endured. (Villa-Flores
, 436).
