Using the classical theories of crime, analyze the events and relationships in the documentary film Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room. In the course, we have covered three different theoretical perspectives including: the structural functionalist, symbolic interactionist, and the conflict and social control perspective. In your paper, you must discuss how a MINIMUM of TWO perspectives (structural functionalism, symbolic interactionism, and conflict theory) apply to the film.
This is what the professor wants.
1. Problem of writing a lengthy plot description and analyzing the film in one page. You should simultaneously incorporate the plot points while analyzing the film. You are being graded on your analysis and critical thinking skills not the plot summary.
2. Problem of describing/defining the theories/perspectives separate from the analysis. Please do not have a separate paragraph(s) defining the theories. We want to see your application of the theories to explain what is happening in the film.
3. A common mistake is that students write about the theories as disconnected entities instead of using them collectively to explain different aspects of criminality within the film. You must be able to explain how the theories relate to each other when explaining the film.
4. Lack of thesis. Your thesis must be substantive and not simply be a
restatement of the assignment (I will analyze the film using three classical crime perspectives…..). There needs to be an argument.
