Safe Wear is a German company that manufactures cleaning and hygiene products. During the COVID crisis, they have decided to capitalise on the need for face protection and so now manufacture face masks. This is also in line with the EUs recommendation that all member states are encouraged to promote the wearing of face masks. Safe Wear wishes to expand its market by selling to Sweden but quickly finds it has challenges in doing so. The first difficulty Safe Wear encounters is that Sweden limits the quantity of face masks that may be imported. Secondly, Swedens laws stipulate that all face masks sold in its country must be made from cotton. They are quite irritated by Swedens requirement of cotton face masks as other Member States do not impose this requirement. Safe Wear also finds out that when their goods enter Sweden, they will have to pay a 20 Swedish Kronas fee (the equivalent of approximately 2 Euros) per face mask.
