For this interview you need to interview someone who is in a different position in real estate than the first interview. Careers other than an agent include appraisers, property managers, loans or commercial properties to name a few. There are many others. If you are unsure if a career will work for the assignments just check with me. However, if it involves real estate it will probably work. As with the first interview, it should be someone who is not related to you. This will provide you with the opportunity to expand your current knowledge. Get started on setting this up early. It may be smart to set up a couple interviews in case one falls through. At worst you will speak to multiple people. You only need to do a write up for one interview.
There are no mandatory questions as it is for you to learn about their position and that can happen in many ways. Since many careers will be different there are a lot of questions that will depend on the job. A few areas to cover:
Background of the person. How they go to this job and what other jobs may have lead to this career.
Details about the day-to-day activities of their job.
Who do they work with? Are their clients homebuyers, agents, business? This could vary greatly.
Positives and negatives of their job.
Advice they would give to someone wanting to enter the field and how to be successful.
Many questions will probably come up as you get some of their answers.
The interview should last on average 20-30 minutes but many are longer because the conversation expands. The interview is recommended to be in person or a video conference since this is how most real estate transactions are conducted. However, phone conversations are acceptable.
The assignment to turn in: Your submitted assignment should NOT be just a list of questions and answers. Turn your interview into a 1-2 page essay describing who you interview, their position and background, as well as what you learned from the interview. Please make the majority of it about what you got out of the conversation and how it helped you understand what is expected in the position rather than just listing facts about the conversation. Reflect rather than retell.
Your grade will include your description of the interview and reflection but also will include grammar and structure. Errors and spelling are important.
This is one of two interviews due for the quarter.
