Discussion Topic
There is considerable debate concerning whether spanking a child is an appropriate form of discipline. Some mental health professionals argue that spanking should be considered physical abuse depending on specific criteria (e.g. intensity; frequency; duration; etc). From a cultural perspective, there is a broad spectrum of opinions and practices specific to corporal punishment, including spanking.
