Perceiving Others Reflection Paper Including Cultural and Gender Sensitivity – send to the professor in Blackboard Mail.
This paper is to be two to three pages in length double spaced and 12 point font, Times Roman. Please do not use a larger font to compensate for taking up room or expanding the paper. The cover sheet does not count in length of the paper.
Question 1. Recall a time where a first impression was not accurate and changed as you grew to know the person. Explain in detail who that was, what your first impression was and what snap judgment you made. Looking at the bolded terms if halo (good) and horn (bad) effects, which applied and why? How is your relationship different now that you know that person better (good or bad)? Do they still have a halo or horns?
Question 2. Consider your ability to communicate outside your own culture called Intercultural Communication Competence. Are your verbal and nonverbal skills strong in the communication context of other cultures? Also, what do you feel you need to work on to be more worldly and perhaps more accepting? What in the references in Discussions and some of the chapters referencing culture helped you the most and why when thinking about intercultural (cultures beyond your own) communication?
Question 3. Recall an exchange where you viewed something different than your counterpart in witnessing another human’s interpersonal actions? How did you select, organize and interpret the situation and how did the other person perceive the situation? After it was over, how successful were you at negotiating a shared perception of what happened?
Question 4. Name a situation where you empathized and why. Counter that with a situation where you could not muster empathy at all. Do you feel that we should ALWAYS treat others as we wish to be treated? Why or why not? How does gender sensitivity couch itself in the way you treat others (he/him; she/her; they/them)?

If you paraphrase from the book include an in-context (parenthetical) citation and a works cited list in APA format at the end of your paper. This is required and included in the scoring guide.
