You were just promoted to Director of Human Resources at a global technology company, OrganizingDataInc, that develops and sells a variety of data services, including cloud computing, cloud storage, and data analytics. OrganizingDataIncs customers are other companies: mid-size firms as well as international conglomerates across a variety of industries that have a need for sophisticated data management systems. Further, OrganizingDataIncs customers are headquartered in various countries around the globe. You work at OrganizingDataInc headquarters in Silicon Valley, but the company maintains operations in dozens of countries. You are now responsible for the companys people strategy. Of particular concern to top management is fostering knowledge development and maintaining coordination and cooperation across all the companys global operations. Why is this important and how should you, as Director of HR, advance this strategic goal?
2.) You are one of two founders of a fashion company, which designs and sells high-quality clothing that is relatively affordable. The company sells its products primarily through online retailers. You recently helped to secure some major investors who are looking to rapidly grow the company. Up until now, the company has maintained around 50 employees (note that clothing design is in-house, while manufacturing is carried out through local contracted organizations in the U.S.). With the upcoming investment, the plan is to grow the company to well over 400 employees within the next year. The expansion will include more employees across many departments, from clothing design to marketing, customer service, and supply chain management, among other areas. What do you think is important to keep in mind as the organization prepares to grow?
