Locate a recent (within the past year) national, regional, or local criminal justice story or issue. The story should have a clear link to crime, justice policy, or criminal justice. A national story is recommended, as it will likely have more coverage. Examples from lecture, course materials, or project examples may not be selected. After a story is selected, you will then research the story. You should locate multiple sources of coverage from print, radio, television, and new media (for example, social media) and compare the coverage, sources, and types of media attention. Do they vary and how? Do they use quality research or sources of information? What, if any, is the role of scholarly research/expert input? You should then provide an analysis and discuss why the coverage varies. In doing so, you should obtain and make use of at least 3 academic peer-reviewed sources to defend your position, drawing a connection between the literature and the news coverage as best as possible. With this information, you will create a short, multimedia presentation (i.e., video, PowerPoint with audio, Presi with audio, podcast, or any other acceptable format) in which the topic chosen is summarized and various examples of different media coverage are presented. The presentation should be 8 to 10 minutes long and is to be uploaded to the Multimedia Presentation Submission discussion board on Canvas by the due date.
