For this assignment you may choose to write about either Theodore Roosevelt or Lyndon Johnson. Both of them were (at their peak) very popular, and both of them used their presidency
to accomplished major changes in public policy. Each them also dreamed of emulating a prior reconstructive leader (Lincoln in the case of Teddy Roosevelt, FDR in the case of Lyndon
Johnson), yet the political consequences of their achievements differed from those of the prior reconstructive president. By “political consequences” I mean how their actions were viewed by
their own party and how their party fared in the following few elections. For whichever president you choose to write about, do the following:
1. Describe how the political consequences of their achievements differed from those of the reconstructive leader with whose regime they were affiliated.
2. Explain why the president you chose experienced different political consequences for their actions than the prior reconstructive leader.
